Proxy Speed and Success Rate Claims Compared (2026)

Your scraper keeps failing even though the provider’s homepage promised 99.9% success. That’s normal, and it isn’t always the provider’s fault. Below, the proxy speed and success rate claims of eight residential providers sit side by side, labelled as advertised, with a five-step test to check them on your own targets.

Proxy speed and success rate claims compared in 2026: advertised figures and how to test them
🤖 Direct answer

On their own pages, Oxylabs advertises the highest success rate at 99.95%, Decodo 99.92% with under 0.5 s response and 99.99% uptime, and Proxy-Seller the quickest response at about 0.35 s. DataImpulse lists 99.51% and about 1 s, IPRoyal 99.4% and about 0.5 s. Evomi and SOAX publish no speed or success figures on the pages read.

⚡ TL;DR · skip here if you are in a hurry
  • Success claims cluster tightly: the five providers that publish one all land between 99.4% and 99.95%, so the headline number barely separates them.
  • Response times vary more: advertised averages run from about 0.35 s at Proxy-Seller to about 1 s at DataImpulse. Oxylabs gives two different figures on one page.
  • Test before you trust: none of the pages says how success is measured. A 50-request test on your own target, inside a refund window, tells you more.

What proxy speed and success rate claims do providers make?

Five providers publish a success rate, and the gap between the highest and the lowest is just 0.55 percentage points.

Success claims barely differ. Response claims differ by almost three times.

Why won’t you see the advertised numbers?

An advertised success rate is an average across every customer and every target, and your scraper is neither.

  • Your targets are harder: A shop with strong bot protection blocks far more requests than an average site. The success rate drops when the target fights back, whatever the pool.
  • Targeting narrows the pool: City or ZIP targeting picks from a smaller set of IPs than country targeting, so fewer good addresses are available for each request.
  • Distance adds latency: Response time includes the trip from your server to the proxy and on to the target. A server far from both adds time to every request.
  • Sessions change the maths: Sticky sessions keep one IP for minutes or days. If that IP slows down or gets flagged, every request in the session feels it.
  • Definitions aren’t published: None of the pages read says what counts as a success, which target was used, or over what period the average was taken.

Server location is the one you control most easily. If you run scrapers on rented machines, our ranking of VPS for proxy servers lists locations worth comparing.

Which claims are hard to compare?

Two pages in this table give two different numbers for the same kind of thing.

  • Oxylabs lists an average response of 0.6 s in its plan features and 0.41 s in its IP quality section, with no note on why they differ.
  • Proxy-Seller cites 99.5% success in its text and 99.7% uptime in its page description. Uptime and success rate measure different things.
  • DataImpulse describes its roughly 1 s response as 2x faster than average, without saying which average.
  • Bright Data’s residential pricing page gives no success or response figure; its 99.99% uptime belongs to the Enterprise plan’s SLA.
Glossary: uptime vs success rate
Uptime is the share of time the proxy network is reachable. Success rate is the share of requests that return a good answer. A network can be up 100% of the time while many requests still fail on a hard target.

Compare like with like: success with success, uptime with uptime.

How do you test a proxy’s speed and success rate yourself?

Fifty requests to your real target tell you more than any homepage number.

  1. Pick your real targetUse a page you actually need to scrape, not a test site. Success on an easy page says little about a protected one.
  2. Match your settingsUse the same country or city targeting and the same rotating or sticky session type you’ll run in production.
  3. Send 50 requestsRun the script below with your proxy details. It counts answers with a 200 status and times each successful request.
  4. Read the medianUse the median response time, not the average, so one slow request doesn’t skew the result.
  5. Repeat at a busy hourRun the same test at the time of day you’ll scrape most, then compare the two runs before you decide.
import statistics
import time

import requests

PROXY = "http://PROXY_USER:PROXY_PASS@PROXY_HOST:PROXY_PORT"
URL = "https://httpbin.org/ip"
RUNS = 50

proxies = {"http": PROXY, "https": PROXY}
times, ok = [], 0
for _ in range(RUNS):
    start = time.perf_counter()
    try:
        r = requests.get(URL, proxies=proxies, timeout=15)
        if r.status_code == 200:
            ok += 1
            times.append(time.perf_counter() - start)
    except requests.RequestException:
        pass

print(f"success: {ok}/{RUNS} ({ok / RUNS:.0%})")
if times:
    print(f"median response: {statistics.median(times):.2f} s")

Swap URL for your own target before you trust the result. Want a quick live check first? You can test your proxies with GoToProxy, or try a few addresses from our free proxy list to learn the script before you spend paid traffic.

Say your success rate drops at city level
That’s a sign the city pool is thin, not that the provider is broken. Try country targeting for the same test and compare the two numbers.

What if a proxy doesn’t match its claims?

You don’t have to commit to a big plan to find out, because most of these providers let you start small or ask for money back.

ProviderTrial or small startRefund terms on the page
Decodo3-day trial with 100MB14-day money-back on eligible subscriptions, not trial usage
DataImpulse5 GB for $5, new customers7-day refund policy
Proxy-SellerTest plan at $3.5 per GB24-hour refund or replacement window

IPRoyal1 GB purchaseNot on the page read

Terms as listed on each provider’s residential page on October 28, 2026. Read the full refund policy before you pay.

The calm way to buy is to run the 50-request test inside the window. Decodo gives you 14 days on eligible subscriptions, DataImpulse 7 days, and Proxy-Seller only 24 hours, so test Proxy-Seller on the day you buy. No plan in this table needs a long contract to start.

Our residential proxy prices report lists what each of these trials and small buys costs per GB.

What can’t advertised figures tell you?

Every figure here is a provider’s description of itself on one day, not a measurement.

  • How the numbers were measured: target sites, test period and the definition of success aren’t published.
  • How your targets will respond: protected sites block more, whatever the pool size.
  • Whether figures still hold after October 28, 2026.
  • Performance by country or city, which none of the pages break down.
  • Speed through your own tools, such as a headless browser. See Playwright vs Selenium for how each handles proxies.

FAQ

On the pages checked on October 28, 2026, Oxylabs advertises the highest at 99.95%, followed by Decodo at 99.92%, DataImpulse at 99.51%, Proxy-Seller at 99.5% and IPRoyal at 99.4%. These are advertised averages across all customers. None of the pages explains how success is measured, so test on your own target before you rely on them.
By advertised average response time, Proxy-Seller lists about 0.35 s, Oxylabs 0.41 s in one section and 0.6 s in another, Decodo under 0.5 s, IPRoyal about 0.5 s and DataImpulse about 1 s. Your own speed depends on where your server sits and how far the target is, so measure the median on your setup.
Advertised rates average many customers and many sites. Your rate drops when the target has strong bot protection, when you use narrow city or ZIP targeting, or when a sticky session holds one flagged IP. Try country targeting and rotating sessions on the same target, and compare the two results.
Uptime is the share of time a proxy network is reachable. Success rate is the share of requests that return a good answer. Decodo, for example, advertises 99.99% uptime and a 99.92% success rate. A network can stay up while many requests to a hard target still fail.
Send about 50 requests through the proxy to the page you actually want to scrape, using your real targeting settings. Count answers with a 200 status, time each successful request, and read the median rather than the average. Repeat at your busiest hour. The Python script in this article does the counting for you.
It depends on the provider’s terms. Decodo lists a 14-day money-back on eligible subscriptions, DataImpulse a 7-day refund policy, and Proxy-Seller a 24-hour refund or replacement window. Evomi caps refunds at 10% of your data or 1 GB within 30 days. Test inside the window and read the full policy first.
Not by itself. Bright Data advertises 400M+ IPs and SOAX 12M+ including mobile, but success depends on how clean the IPs are and how hard your target is. Pool size matters most when you need many cities or many fresh IPs at once. Treat it as one input, not a guarantee.
