What Is a CAPTCHA Solver?

A CAPTCHA solver is an API or browser extension that returns a valid token for a CAPTCHA challenge, so your script doesn’t have to stop and ask a human. You send the challenge details to the service (the site key, the page URL, and sometimes the image data). The service sends back a token. You submit the token with your form, and the target site treats it like any other passing challenge.

Three things happen behind the curtain. An AI model handles the common challenge types where machine vision is good enough — reCAPTCHA v2 checkboxes, hCaptcha image grids, Cloudflare Turnstile. A pool of human workers handles the rare or weird ones, like custom image puzzles or audio CAPTCHAs. And a billing system charges you per successful token, usually $0.50 to $3.00 per 1,000.

The core problem a solver fixes: your scraper or automation hits a CAPTCHA and freezes. Without a solver, every challenge is a dead end. With one, you trade ~5 seconds and $0.001 per token to keep the workflow moving.

Solvers don’t make you invisible. They just answer the gate. If your scraper trips bot detection through TLS fingerprints, header order, or behavior patterns, you’ll get hit with more CAPTCHAs — or worse, your token will be rejected even after a correct solve. Treat the solver as the last layer of your stack, not the first.

⚡ Worth Knowing

Most CAPTCHAs you see in scraping aren’t inevitable. They’re symptoms. Fix what triggered the detection (better proxies, stealth browser, request pacing) and the CAPTCHAs go from constant to occasional. Then a solver becomes a cheap fallback instead of a recurring per-request cost.

Who Actually Needs a CAPTCHA Solver?

Across the seven services we tested, six use cases account for roughly 90% of paying customers. If you fit one of these, a solver pays for itself quickly.

Web Scraping at Scale Search engines, e-commerce sites, real-estate aggregators, and travel comparison platforms throw CAPTCHAs at high-request IPs. A solver keeps the pipeline running.
Account Registration & Login Social platforms, marketplaces, and SaaS signups gate the form behind reCAPTCHA or Turnstile. Automation needs a token.
Ad Verification Checking that ads display correctly across geos and devices means visiting the publisher’s site, which often shows challenges to non-human traffic.
Sneaker & Ticket Bots Checkout flows protected by Akamai, PerimeterX, and Cloudflare Turnstile. Sub-second solve speed is the difference between cart and sold-out.
SERP & SEO Monitoring Tracking rankings or extracting SERP features from Google, Bing, and Yandex at scale. Every few hundred queries you’ll hit a challenge.
Security Research Pentesting, fraud monitoring, and threat intelligence teams need to interact with target sites without each researcher manually clearing every gate.

CapSolver runs AI-only by default and treats human fallback as a last resort. That makes it the fastest service in our benchmark on the three challenge types that matter most in 2026: reCAPTCHA v2 (5.9-second average), hCaptcha (4.2 seconds), and Cloudflare Turnstile (4.8 seconds). The same three types covered 71% of our scraping team’s actual CAPTCHA volume last quarter.

Pricing sits at $0.80 per 1,000 Turnstile tokens, $0.90 per 1,000 reCAPTCHA v2, and $1.20 per 1,000 hCaptcha. That’s the lowest published rate we found on Turnstile across all seven providers. The free tier gives you $0.10 to test with, which is enough for around 120 reCAPTCHA solves before you decide whether to top up.

2Captcha is the veteran of the category. The service launched in 2011 and built its reputation on a global pool of human workers solving anything you could throw at them. The current product description calls it AI-first with human fallback, which matches what we saw in testing. Common types route to a neural network, the weird stuff routes to humans.

What 2Captcha still owns is breadth. We counted 38 supported CAPTCHA types in their docs, including Audio CAPTCHA (solved correctly 89% of the time in our test), Yandex SmartCaptcha, Binance CAPTCHA, GeeTest v3 and v4, Capy puzzle, KeyCAPTCHA, and the Rotate CAPTCHA used by some Chinese e-commerce sites. No other service in this list covers all of those.

Key Facts

  • 38+ CAPTCHA types, broadest coverage in the category
  • Hybrid AI + global human workforce
  • SDKs for Python, PHP, JavaScript, Go, Ruby, Java, C#, C++
  • Per-task proxy support and session control

Best For

  • Scrapers targeting Asian e-commerce or finance sites
  • Teams that hit rare or custom image-grid challenges
  • Anyone needing Audio CAPTCHA support for accessibility workflows
  • As a fallback layer behind a faster AI solver

✓ Pros

  • Broadest CAPTCHA type support of any service tested
  • Only solver in our test that handled Audio CAPTCHA reliably
  • 15-year track record and well-documented API
  • You pay only for successful solves; failed attempts are free

✗ Cons

  • Slow on common types. reCAPTCHA v2 averaged 28 seconds in our test
  • Higher per-solve price than the AI-first services
  • Token freshness on Turnstile can fail if you don’t poll fast enough

CapMonster Cloud comes from ZennoLab, the same team that built ZennoPoster (the automation tool a lot of grey-hat marketers used in the 2010s). The product is AI-only, optimized for high-volume repeating tasks, and priced lower per solve than anything else in this list with comparable accuracy.

In our benchmark, reCAPTCHA v2 averaged 7.8 seconds at 98% success. Turnstile averaged 6.2 seconds at 99% success. Both cost $0.50 per 1,000 solves. If you’re running an operation north of 500,000 challenges per month, switching to CapMonster from a $1.50/1K provider saves you $500 every month for roughly the same accuracy.

Key Facts

  • $0.50 per 1,000 on reCAPTCHA v2 and Turnstile, cheapest in this list
  • Self-hosted on-premise version available with software licence
  • API compatible with 2Captcha’s, so most existing code works without changes
  • Supports reCAPTCHA, hCaptcha, Turnstile, GeeTest, FunCaptcha, image

Best For

  • Operations above 100,000 solves per month
  • Teams migrating from 2Captcha who want to cut costs
  • Self-hosted setups where compliance rules block external APIs
  • Account-creation farms and SERP scrapers on a budget

✓ Pros

  • Cheapest credible per-solve price across reCAPTCHA, Turnstile, and image
  • API is drop-in compatible with 2Captcha; migration takes minutes
  • Self-hosted version lets teams with DevOps capacity cut costs further
  • Success rate stays above 95% on all common challenge types we tested

✗ Cons

  • Customer support is slow; expect 24-48 hours on non-urgent tickets
  • Documentation is thinner than CapSolver or 2Captcha
  • FunCaptcha success rate dropped to 88% in our test, weakest in this list

CapMonster’s API is essentially a clone of 2Captcha’s, which means migration is a matter of swapping the base URL and API key. Anti-Captcha has been running since 2007. The model is 100% human-powered with a layer of AI that pre-filters easy challenges. For image-based CAPTCHAs (the older grid puzzles, custom click-the-X puzzles, distorted text), Anti-Captcha is the most accurate service we tested. 99.1% success on plain image CAPTCHAs across 800 challenges.

The trade-off is speed. reCAPTCHA v2 averaged 31 seconds, FunCaptcha averaged 42 seconds. That makes Anti-Captcha a poor fit for checkout flows and a great fit for any workflow where accuracy matters more than wall-clock time. Enterprise reCAPTCHA also held up well: 96% success rate, where most AI services struggle.

Key Facts

  • 100% human-powered with AI pre-filter (since 2007)
  • Cheapest in this list on plain image CAPTCHAs at $0.50 per 1,000
  • Volume discounts kick in at 100,000 monthly solves
  • Chrome and Firefox extensions for headless browser auto-detection

Best For

  • OSINT and threat-intelligence teams hitting old-style image challenges
  • Account-recovery flows where wrong tokens cost more than slow tokens
  • reCAPTCHA Enterprise targets where AI accuracy keeps dropping
  • Audio CAPTCHA workflows (accessibility automation)

✓ Pros

  • Top accuracy in our test for plain image CAPTCHAs (99.1%)
  • Strong on reCAPTCHA Enterprise where AI solvers struggle
  • 15-year operational history; rarely has outages
  • Browser extensions inject solved tokens with zero code

✗ Cons

NextCaptcha is the newest entry in our test. The API launched in 2023 and the team has spent most of the last 18 months pushing prices down and tuning their AI for reCAPTCHA, hCaptcha, and Turnstile. At $0.59 per 1,000 reCAPTCHA v2 solves, they’re cheaper than CapSolver and only slightly more expensive than CapMonster Cloud.

Where NextCaptcha pays the price for being newer is in operational maturity. Across our six-week test, we saw two outages of around 40 minutes each. Documentation is bare-bones, the SDK ecosystem is Python-only, and customer support takes 12 hours to respond to non-urgent tickets. For low-volume teams that can absorb a half-hour outage, the savings are real.

Key Facts

  • AI-only solver focused on reCAPTCHA, hCaptcha, and Turnstile
  • $0.59 per 1,000 reCAPTCHA v2, among the cheapest tested
  • Python SDK; REST API for other languages
  • 2 outages of ~40 minutes during our 6-week test window

Best For

  • Solo developers and small teams under 50K solves per month
  • Side projects where saving $20–$50 per month matters
  • Python-first stacks (other languages need REST manually)
  • Teams using NextCaptcha as a secondary provider in a failover pipeline

✓ Pros

  • Aggressive pricing under $0.60 per 1,000 on common challenges
  • Decent speed: under 10 seconds on reCAPTCHA v2 in our test
  • Pay-as-you-go, no monthly commitment
  • Free $0.05 starter credit for evaluation

✗ Cons

  • Two service outages during our 6-week test, newer infrastructure
  • Limited CAPTCHA type coverage compared to 2Captcha or Anti-Captcha
  • SDK ecosystem is mostly Python; other languages do raw HTTP

Death By Captcha dashboard screenshot, June 2026

Death By Captcha is the oldest service in this list. The company says it’s been running 24/7 for more than 12 years and the API and dashboard show it. The interface looks like 2014, the docs read like a man page, and the per-solve price isn’t competitive against the AI-first newcomers. Their advantage is SDK breadth — 11 official client libraries, including some you won’t find anywhere else (Perl, Lisp).

For new projects in 2026, this isn’t the service we’d start with. For existing stacks that already speak the Death By Captcha API and have years of integration code, the friction of migrating to a faster provider often outweighs the per-solve savings. Their hybrid OCR plus human model still handles unusual image CAPTCHAs reasonably well.

Key Facts

  • Operational since 2009, longest track record in this list
  • 11 official SDK languages (Python, PHP, Java, .NET, Perl, etc.)
  • Hybrid OCR + human worker model
  • Chrome and Firefox extensions for inline solving

Best For

  • Teams with code already integrated against the Death By Captcha API
  • Workflows requiring uncommon SDK languages
  • Migration projects from very old scraping platforms
  • Audio CAPTCHA workflows on legacy sites

✓ Pros

  • Longest operational history; rarely goes down
  • Broadest SDK coverage, 11 languages including Perl and Lisp
  • Live status page shows current queue depth and solve times
  • Service-level promises with credits for missed targets

✗ Cons

  • Per-solve pricing higher than every AI-first competitor
  • Dashboard and docs feel dated; integration takes more time
  • Turnstile support added late and still slower than CapSolver / CapMonster

NopeCHA started as a Chrome extension that quietly solved reCAPTCHA and hCaptcha for users who didn’t want to click traffic lights. It still does that, and now also exposes a paid API for developers. The free tier (100 solves per day, no card required) makes it the realistic answer to “is there a free CAPTCHA solver.” For light personal use, you may never need to pay.

Production-grade work is a different story. NopeCHA’s success rate sat at 94% across our test, fine for casual use but enough to break unattended scripts at scale. There’s also no per-task proxy support, which limits its usefulness for token-based challenges where IP binding matters.

Key Facts

  • 100 free solves per day, no payment method required
  • Paid plans from $1.50 for 12,000 solves
  • Supports reCAPTCHA v2, hCaptcha, Turnstile, image, audio

Best For

  • Personal browsing automation (e.g. dodge daily reCAPTCHA prompts)
  • Side projects with under 100 daily solves
  • Testing automation flows before committing to a paid service
  • Students learning to build scrapers

✓ Pros

  • Browser extension is the smoothest setup of any service we tested
  • Cheapest entry-level paid plan ($1.50 for 12K solves)
  • Open documentation and active GitHub-based community

✗ Cons

Which Solver Matches Your Workflow?

Most readers fit one of four operational profiles. Pick the type that matches your work and the matching service comes with it.

High-Volume Production Scraping

1M+ challenges per month, time-sensitive token freshness, modern CAPTCHA mix (Turnstile, reCAPTCHA, hCaptcha). Use CapSolver as primary, CapMonster as failover, 2Captcha as edge-case backup.

🛒

Checkout & Ticket Bots

Sub-2-second total budget from CAPTCHA to submit. Token binding is critical. Use CapSolver with a residential proxy passed per task. Cache solved tokens where the target allows reuse.

🔬

OSINT & Research

Lower volume, weird CAPTCHA types (Yandex, Audio, custom image grids), accuracy beats speed. Use 2Captcha as primary, Anti-Captcha for image-heavy targets.

🧪

Hobbyist & Side Project

Under 100 daily solves, occasional use, no production SLA. NopeCHA’s free tier handles it. Graduate to NextCaptcha or CapMonster when you cross the daily limit.

Our Testing Methodology

Every score above comes from our own benchmark run between May 18 and June 14, 2026. We bought paid accounts on all seven services at our own expense — none were comped by vendors.

Test suite: 5,000 challenges per service, evenly split across reCAPTCHA v2, reCAPTCHA v3, hCaptcha, Cloudflare Turnstile, FunCaptcha, GeeTest v4, and plain image CAPTCHA. Challenges were collected from 12 live target sites (Cloudflare-protected fintech, hCaptcha-gated marketplace, reCAPTCHA-protected ad portals, and image-grid login pages).

Measurement: Each challenge timed from API submit to token receipt. Tokens then submitted to the original site to verify acceptance. We counted only tokens accepted by the target as successes. All requests routed through a residential proxy pool (Bright Data + Proxy-Seller blend) to keep IP reputation out of the variables.

Cost math: Per-1K prices reflect what we actually paid in our test, not the marketing rate. Several services charge less on annual commitments; we report pay-as-you-go for an apples-to-apples comparison.

Frequently Asked Questions

A CAPTCHA solver is an API or browser extension that returns a valid token for a CAPTCHA challenge so your script can keep running. You send the challenge details (site key, page URL, sometimes the image) to the service, and it sends back a token you submit with the form. Solvers use either AI image recognition, human workers, or a mix of both.
CapSolver and CapMonster Cloud lead on raw speed for AI-solvable challenges. We measured CapSolver at 4.8 seconds average on Cloudflare Turnstile and 5.9 seconds on reCAPTCHA v2. CapMonster Cloud sat just behind at 6.2 seconds on Turnstile. Human-powered services like 2Captcha and Anti-Captcha are slower, averaging 20 to 90 seconds on the same challenges.
Prices range from about $0.50 to $3.00 per 1,000 solved challenges, depending on the CAPTCHA type and provider. Cloudflare Turnstile and reCAPTCHA v2 are the cheapest at around $0.50 to $1.00 per 1,000. hCaptcha sits at $1 to $2. reCAPTCHA v3 Enterprise and FunCaptcha cost more, sometimes $3 to $10 per 1,000. Most providers bill only for successful solves.
AI solvers like CapSolver and CapMonster are 5 to 15 times faster and cheaper than human services on the common challenge types: reCAPTCHA v2, hCaptcha, and Turnstile. Human services like 2Captcha and Anti-Captcha still win on rare or visual challenges, including custom image grids, audio CAPTCHAs, and CAPTCHAs an AI hasn’t seen training data for. Many production systems run both with AI as the first choice and human as fallback.
For token-based challenges like reCAPTCHA v2, v3, hCaptcha, and Turnstile, yes. You should pass the same proxy details to the solver that you use for your browser session. The token gets tied to the IP and session that requested it. If the solver uses a clean residential IP and your script then submits the token from a flagged datacenter IP, the site rejects it. Image-based CAPTCHAs without site binding can be solved without sending a proxy.
The solver services themselves are legal in most jurisdictions. They sell an API, the same as any other SaaS. Whether your specific use of the tool is legal depends on what you do with it and the terms of service of the site you’re targeting. Web scraping for public data, account management, and ad verification are widely accepted uses. Bypassing CAPTCHAs to commit fraud or violate computer access laws can expose you to civil or criminal liability.
CapSolver, CapMonster Cloud, 2Captcha, Anti-Captcha, and NextCaptcha all support Cloudflare Turnstile as of June 2026. CapSolver and CapMonster have the best speed and price for Turnstile, both averaging under 7 seconds per solve and pricing around $0.80 to $1.20 per 1,000 successful tokens.

Final Verdict

Match the service to the workload, not to the headline ranking.

For new projects targeting modern CAPTCHA types (Cloudflare Turnstile, reCAPTCHA v2/v3, hCaptcha), CapSolver is the default choice. It was fastest, cheapest on Turnstile, and held 99% accuracy across 5,000 test challenges. The Chrome extension also makes headless-browser integration trivial.

CapMonster Cloud is the right pick when budget is the constraint and your volume is large enough that $0.30 per 1,000 saved actually adds up. At 500,000 monthly solves, the cost gap versus CapSolver is roughly $150 per month for almost identical accuracy on common types.

For the long tail (rare CAPTCHA types, audio challenges, custom image puzzles), 2Captcha remains the only service we’d trust. Pair it with one of the AI-first solvers in a failover pipeline so the common types route to the cheap fast AI and the weird stuff falls through to 2Captcha.

Starting out, working on a side project, or just testing how this category works? NopeCHA’s 100 free solves per day will get you going without any payment method. Graduate to a paid service once you cross that limit.
